This super cool modular wall unit was designed by Spencer Collins for one of the partners at The Hundreds. We received a sketch with overall dimensions and a color palette. It was designed to be economical and they gave us some artistic latitude, which we love and always try to reward by producing work above and beyond.
The six frames are made of hardwood and stained dark. The boxes are made of MDF and painted. We realized during construction that it would be a great design for a mass produced modular wall system.
The wide section is made to accommodate a TV. All the shelves rest on pins and are notched to fit into the space in the frame as well.
This piece reminds me of the wall systems that were popular in the 50’s and 60’s. We may offer a set like this with a desk, drawers, cabinets and bookcases, that could be arranged in any formation. We could make an office version, a bedroom version, and a dining room version.
