This is the reason I started doing woodwork when I was a kid. May I present “Seabiscuit”. Seabiscuit is a 12 ft 3 inch gaff rigged catboat. She is actually a plywood reproduction of a Beetle Cat, which was a big racing class on the east coast in the 50’s and 60’s. I have pictures of huge regattas in Chesapeake Bay and all around New England.

I built this one about 4 years ago, and we sail her around Marina Del Rey and the Santa Monica Pier. Image

There is no better feeling than sailing on the ocean in a boat you built yourself, and I admit I can be quite a snob. Someone said to me” Cool boat …where did you get it? ” I raised my eyebrows and my chin went up, and I said ” Do I look like the type of person who would sail around in a store bought boat?” Image
